22-23 WSC Whidbey Island Nourishes SWES Nutrition Program
Since 2014, students at the South Whidbey School District’s robust School Farms Program have been growing vegetables, using organic practices integrated with farm-based curriculum. Our expanding culinary and healthy snack programs helps connect students to good nutrition and better appreciate the food they are growing at the School Farm. Our member will be part of a robust team of farmers, educators, volunteers and community members who are supporting hands-on healthy eating options to South Whidbey students. Interviews for this position will be held in May.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will coordinate with the South Whidbey School Farms Program to teach nutrition and age-appropriate cooking skills to K-6 grade students and implement the Snack Program at the South Whidbey Elementary School. They will coordinate directly with Whidbey Island Nourishes staff to procure fresh produce from vendors (the School Farm, local farms, and grocery suppliers) for the Snack Program and help coordinate parent and community volunteers and lead the preparation and delivery of snacks to the classrooms. Additionally, they will develop messaging for students, teachers and administrators, parents, and community members to help promote the impact of healthy eating. And lead three healthy snack events over the course of the school year that will creatively challenge students to try new foods and create excitement about eating healthy.
