Backside Learning Center VISTA Summer Associate
 
 
 
This program aims to prevent summer learning loss among low-income youth, increase access for children to healthy foods, and experience enrichment activities to support a healthy well-being. Summer Associates will organize and coordinate a summer reading program, providing support to volunteers who will meet with groups of students to work on different activities such as reading and math reinforcement; as well as working directly with these students. Summer Associates will work with students and families to identify, organize and execute all aspects of educational and enrichment outings as well as access to community summer camps throughout the summer. SA’s will establish a regular system for communication with parents.

Member Duties : Summer Associates will assist with all aspects (identify financial support opportunities, provide transportation, coordinate outing and camp schedules, etc) of helping youth gain access to community summer camps (through JCPS, Metro Parks, Other private camps). Summer Associates will identify books and materials to be used in the summer reading program, as well as identify potential enrichment outings to be presented to staff (cultural events, sporting events, outdoor/environmental educational opportunities, etc.) as well as plan and execute outings (organization of students, volunteers, transportation, other logistics, etc). sporting events, concerts, outdoor/environmental educational opportunities, etc.) as well as plan and execute outings (organization of students, volunteers, logistics).
