Louisiana STEM - Stakeholder Engagement VISTA

Goal of the Project: The mission of the Northshore STEM Coalition (NSTEM), a National STEM Learning Ecosystem member, is to prepare all youth and young adults in the Northshore region for success by facilitating equitable, inclusive, quality STEM education and workforce development opportunities. The goals of the STEM Outreach programs are to: 1) Increase student interest, participation and achievement in STEM for all students at all grade levels; 2) Increase strong stakeholder partnerships and support for STEM outreach programs; and 3) Increase stakeholder awareness and support to create sustainable quality STEM education opportunities. The overarching goal of this project is to increase the number of youth in the region graduating from high school well-informed and well-prepared for college and careers in STEM fields, with a priority given to low-income communities. Key to the success of the project will be to extend standards-based out-of-school-time experiences to all students in ways that engage families and community members. Besides delivering exciting STEM learning challenges, the STEM Outreach programs will help build community awareness and support for the NSTEM Coalition, thus building capacity for educational success for the region.
