Virginia Housing Alliance - MHCCV Education & Outreach VISTA

Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 17 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at Manufactured Home Community Coalition of Virginia (MHCCV) in Richmond, VA. The Manufactured Home Community Coalition (MHCCV) is a nonprofit coalition of housing practitioners, homelessness service providers, legal aid experts, and other advocates committed to improving financial, legal, and material conditions for residents in Virginia’s mobile home parks. MHCCV is looking for a motivated individual to serve as the Education and Outreach VISTA in an effort to better prepare and equip MHCCV on their path to building the infrastructure needed for the acquisition and ownership of mobile home parks by nonprofit organizations and resident co-operatives. The VISTA member will help build substantial capacity for MHCCV to continue its evolution from a “start-up” entity to a fully-formed, sustainable organization by fulfilling the following five major goals: 1. Improve and preserve Virginia’s existing manufactured home communities 2. Position MHCCV as the statewide resource hub for mobile home park revitalization 3. Educate and empower residents in manufactured home communities 4. Advance a positive public image of manufactured housing 5. Build sustainability into MHCCV’s leadership, finances, programs, and services.

They will update and create educational materials for residents, housing practitioners, and stakeholders with a focus on changes to state and local laws, emerging best practices, and other pertinent information. They will compile mobile home park data such as creating a statewide mobile home park database using local government parcel records as well as tracking mobile home park sales across the Commonwealth. The VISTA will also help MHCCV coordinate with ROC USA, a national organization that supports resident cooperative ownership of mobile home parks, to bring their model to Virginia.
