Economic Opportunities in North Central NM_Santa Fe County
Our broadband access project goal is to bridge the digital divide and foster greater economic opportunity for underserved residents through the expansion of access to reliable, high speed internet in underserved and rural areas in Santa Fe County. This project will build capacity in the economically distressed and underserved areas of Santa Fe County through the deployment of access to high speed internet. Currently, Santa Fe County is working on a strategic broadband plan for the purpose of guiding the expansion of broadband infrastructure. It is the intent that the strategic broadband plan will identify broadband service deficiencies throughout Santa Fe County and provide strategies, plans and recommendations to inform future broadband deployment. Over the course of service, the VISTA Member will begin laying a foundation for the strategic broadband plan through the assembling of relevant broadband data pertaining to Santa Fe County. Based upon findings, the member will be responsible for preparing a white paper detailing the current broadband landscape in Santa Fe County. Our workforce development project goal is to ensure that Santa Fe County is marked by a workforce that is responsive and suited to both current and future economic/business needs and has employment opportunities which are well-compensated and add to the quality of life for local residents. In efforts to achieve this goal, Santa Fe County is currently developing an Economic Development plan with a Workforce Development component. Over the course of service, the Vista member will assist the Economic Development Specialist in developing the workforce development component of our Economic Development Plan. This will entail community outreach, research and reporting, strategy development, and the basics of report writing.
