2023 Summer Associate BGCGF-Sylvester Broome Village
 
 
 
At the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, our mission is to cultivate leadership capacity. We firmly believe that investing in young people is the key to creating compelling and lasting change in our community. To both give youth a voice in their world and transform Flint into a just and equitable city, we nurture leadership skills and inspire students to be active, informed, and relentless agents for their success through our programs and services, which reach 600 students per day or over 7,000 families per year through more than twenty after-school programs.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates at the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village (SBEV) will engage youth in: health and fitness, education, and teen mentoring. This summer support will help youth learn to be active and well, which sets them up for future health and longevity. College for Kids programs will be supported by Summer Associate members and provide enhanced learning opportunities for young people in Flint and Genesee County during the summer months. Teen mentoring will help engage the next generation in leadership skills that empower them to be active citizens in their community. Overall, Summer Associate members at SBEV will help serve the mission to cultivate leadership capacity in young people.
