CCNYPA Dickinson College VISTA

Dickinson College’s Center for Civic Learning and Action seeks a VISTA to support access to job readiness training and employment opportunities in Carlisle’s Northside neighborhood. The VISTA project has a clear focus on increasing economic opportunity in the Northside neighborhood. By improving access to job skills training programs and partnering directly with local employers, PEEC seeks to foster workforce development where the need is greatest. By collaborating with established providers, the PEEC partnership brings existing expertise and proven program models to the area of Carlisle with the highest concentration of need. With the addition of new workforce development, financial literacy, and computer skills programs, a much broader segment of the Carlisle community has the potential to be reached. Supporting this assessment, the Employment Skills Center provides skill development workshops, ESL courses, and programs leading to credentials like the GED, nursing, and industrial certifications. These programs have had a dramatic impact on participants with most finding related employment or career advancement opportunities upon completion; in fact, graduates of several of the programs (e.g., CNA, forklift operator) are in high demand.
