AZ Refugee Resettlement- Financial Literacy Coordinator

The Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program (RRP) VISTA Project’s mission is to support refugees’ effective resettlement in Arizona. Refugees face a wide variety of difficult challenges in achieving self-sufficiency. These challenges include such issues as becoming familiar with their new country, securing an affordable place to live, learning about resources available to assist them in resettlement, finding and retaining employment, acquiring a new language, and learning how to use the resources available to them to become more self-sufficient. The Financial Literacy VISTA Coordinator will be housed at Friendly House, Inc. a non-profit based in Phoenix. This project will primarily serve refugee clients within their first five years of living in the United States (US). These are individuals, including young adults, who are new to the US and are still working to learn English and find employment. The VISTA in this role will be conducting a needs assessment to better understand the gaps that exist around financial literacy and will use this feedback to develop various trainings to address how to best educate clients. These will be areas such a the US banking and credit system, how to create and follow a budget, the importance of a savings account, taxes 101, and how to build financial security in order to support the increase of their self-sufficiency.
