Summer Program: Washtenaw Economic Inclusion & Opportunity
Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County (JFS), serves a diverse international population prioritizing the most vulnerable in our community. This project aims to increase opportunities for integration of immigrants and creating a more welcoming Washtenaw County through leveraging ongoing programming to expand necessary economic empowerment services (job development, skills trainings, asset building, and small business development services) designed to improve the financial capabilities of vulnerable populations residing in Washtenaw County; ultimately enhancing their economic self-sufficiency and participation with the county’s economy. VISTA members will support and enhance programming in food access, summer youth, and small business development at Jewish Family Services in Ann Arbor, MI.

Member Duties : • Recruit, train, and coordinate community-based volunteers to assist in summer program activities • Assist in the supporting the sustainable infrastructure of the agency to engage community volunteers year around. • Structure long-term solutions for involving community members in project activities. • Create an awareness campaign to involve the private sector in support of the project. • Conduct community education presentations. • Tutor low-income children or youth to prevent summer learning loss. • Participate in planning and implementation of a summer youth group program. • Assist in operations of specialty food pantry • Participate in planning and implementation of innovative food access programs
