Rise House Volunteer Management VISTA

Rise House Arkansas is a domestic violence shelter. Our first priority is to provide a safe place for victims experiencing domestic violence. When a new resident enters the shelter, they go through an assessment with the case manager. With the help of the case manager, the resident will come up with goals that they are hoping to achieve while they are staying at the shelter. The case managers and advocates help the resident figure out the best course of action to ultimately achieve independence. Through their stay at the shelter, our goal is for them to become financially secure and move into stable housing. The shelter provides services ranging from a 24-hour hotline and crisis counseling to housing, immigration assistance, support groups, and professional skills assistance. Last year, the shelter received 500 hotline calls, provided 5,915 safe nights to 127 adults and 36 children. Support groups and life skills classes were attended by 390 adults and children, and 39 adults received relocation assistance to move into stable housing. With such a great need for services, the Women’s Shelter is interested in developing innovative ways to leverage community volunteers, use partnerships to deliver new programs, and expand the capacity to serve through increase grants and fundraising.
