Community Roots - Community Compost Coordinator

Community Roots uses an abandoned greenhouse nursery and accompanying six acres as the site of community programs that target horticultural, agricultural, and land stewardship programs. We are seeking to directly support and supplement: (1) local school science standards (e.g. STEM education goals, etc.) through hands-on nutrition, food science, and food production studies, (2) existing agricultural & horticultural education (e.g. 4H, FFA, KCCC, OSU Extension-Knox, etc.) by offering community growing space at little to no cost, (3) wilderness skills and programs (e.g. wild seed saving, plant identification, etc.), (4) the provision of an outdoor classroom for teachers and a community service work space for volunteers and rehabilitation programs in our local court system.

Member Duties : As our Community Compost Coordinator, you will reduce food waste by expanding and increasing the sustainability of our current Community Composting Program. By growing community access to compostable food waste streams and composted soil amendments, you will grow our impact. You will also play a key role in engaging additional volunteers who will serve at more compost collection sites. Connecting with sustainability clubs and other groups at local high schools and colleges, you will build relationships and rally new volunteers to our cause. In addition to volunteer engagement, you will also generate program sustainability by securing grant funds. Finally, you will play an important role in creating a new system of food gleaning for Knox County and local farmers markets, paving ways for residents to contribute to and use compost. Join our team and become a leader in the composting movement today! **Benefits include a monthly $200 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**
