Otterbein-Promise House Coordinator

Otterbein University is an institution that serves the community by preparing graduates to engage locally and globally as they advance their professions and their communities. Over 44% of Otterbein students face significant socioeconomic barriers to their success. The VISTA project is housed on campus within the Center for Student Engagement (CSE) where we educate students through hands-on experiential opportunities. The VISTA program is integrated with student service organizations, leadership for social change programs, a food pantry and resource center (The Promise House), and a one-acre community give-back garden (The Otterbein Community Garden). The Promise House hosts a Cardinal Resource Hub to integrate community resources from various non-profit and educational sites, bringing together food fairness work, emergency housing, microgrants, strategies for poverty alleviation, food production, nutrition education, financial literacy, and other educational programming.

Member Duties : As our VISTA member, you will work with our campus food pantry and community garden on three projects to eradicate hunger in our community, empowering local youth to secure a pathway to economic mobility. You will develop a brand new Lifeskills Literacy program for low-income students to gain basic skills that will equip them for their futures. While you manage a robust team of volunteers at the resource center, you will also create a workforce development plan. Through this plan, volunteers will be able to map the skills they are learning during the hands-on professional experience of running the organization. You will also cultivate a new Nourish to Flourish program with community and corporate partners who will bring nutrition-rich food to the pantry for dissemination to students and community members experiencing food insecurity. Join our dynamic team today! **Benefits include a monthly $200 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**
