Otterbein-Promise House Coordinator

Otterbein University is an institution of higher education serving the community by preparing graduates to think deeply and broadly, to engage locally and globally, and to advance their professions and their communities. The VISTA project will be housed on campus within the Center for Student Engagement (CSE) where we educate students to participate responsibly in a global society. The VISTA program is integrated with student service organizations, leadership for social change programs, a food pantry and resource center (The Promise House), and a one-acre community give-back garden (The Otterbein Community Garden). The Promise House hosts a Cardinal Resource Hub to help the community integrate resources across various non-profit and educational landscapes, bringing together food equity work, emergency housing, microgrants, strategies for poverty alleviation, food production, nutrition education, financial literacy, and other educational programming.

Member Duties : In this role, you will work with The Promise House and the Community Garden on three primary goals: (1) Building Partnerships, (2) Mobilizing Volunteers, and (3) Increasing Food Access. You will engage community groups, developing a portfolio of partnerships to provide fresh food, emergency housing, transportation, and health services. You will also host partner gatherings and develop outreach tools for youth. Building our capacity to recruit, train, manage, and retain volunteers, you will provide opportunities for students to serve non-profit partners. Finally, you will increase food access, leveraging donations of nutrition-rich food to address gaps in the inventory (e.g., vegan, halal, kosher, gluten-free, nut-free). Seeking food rescue opportunities, you will also research grants and corporate partnerships and coordinate the production of produce at the garden.
