Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) was developed to provide low-income students across the US equitable access to comprehensive environmental education. By combining STEM instruction with outdoor learning, GGO enhances the quality of health, science literacy, and environmental stewardship for children who would otherwise be excluded from this transformative experience. GGO presents children an opportunity to see, hear, taste, and touch a more fascinating world than the one they’ve grown accustomed to.

Member Duties : The Public Relations Coordinator VISTA member will build the capacity of Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) by (1) writing press releases, developing press kits, and media database (2) designing posters, brochures, other PR material, (3) assisting in the development of our annual report, and re-develop and write the monthly newsletter, (4) developing a social media strategy, and (5) taking photos and videos as well as creating an internal media database. As a result of the VISTA member’s service, GGO will be able to continue to expand its educational initiatives in schools with 100% of their student body on the National School Lunch Program, thus helping to further GGO’s mission of alleviating educational inequality and environmental injustice that contributes to the cycle of poverty
