23-24 STEM Afterschool Expansion VISTA - UT
 
 
 
The Afterschool Alliance and the Utah Afterschool Network are embarking on exciting new work to expand the amount of STEM opportunities in afterschool programs. High quality afterschool programs have been shown to increase student academic performance, behavioral improvements and have been a factor in supporting regular school attendance. To increase these types of opportunities for children and youth throughout the state, partnerships need to be developed and resource gaps need to be identified. The STEM Afterschool Expansion VISTA will work to: 1) Establish partnerships that promote and support afterschool STEM opportunities 2) Improve the quality of STEM professional learning activities and resources and 3) Increase opportunities for youth growth within STEM fields. This position is based in Salt Lake City, UT. Afterschool Alliance VISTAs are eligible for the following benefits: up to $1000/mo for housing, $50/mo for gas, and $150/mo for groceries.

Member Duties : A VISTA member in this position will: -Support the Professional Development team in organizing STEM-specific tracks at annual conferences and recommend online STEM resources to providers and community members. - Support providers with knowledge and resources through outreach, professional development events, and online resources to establish relationships with STEM orientated businesses within their communities in order to garner support, resources, mentoring, and internship opportunities. - Support the Young Utahpreneurs Initiative, which equips providers with grant funding to develop an entrepreneurship program and youth product pitch competition, through business outreach, relationship building, organization, planning, and scheduling.
