Women in Transitions - Business Development for Refugees

The Women in Transition Initiative is a collaboration between Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, Benevolence Farm, and AmeriCorps VISTA CNCS which focuses on employment and workforce development strategies through agricultural-based social enterprise programs as a tool for overcoming and preventing poverty. The initiative seeks to ensure that North Carolina women facing major transitions (refugees, immigrants, formerly incarcerated, and others) gain the educational and professional skills needed to improve their economic situation. The AmeriCorps VISTA Communications & Outreach Coordinator will improve TTCF communications systems which will increase community member understanding and support of TTCF’s work and mission. This will be achieved through exploring ways to improve current communications platforms and systems, and researching new methods, tools and systems to increase the performance and accessibility of TTCF communications. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to justice, equity and have experience working with people from diverse cultures, ethnicity, races, religion, language, socioeconomic groups, and educational backgrounds. Relevant experience with communications, including website development, social media management and newsletter development are ideal. Experience using donor databases or electronic email systems are desired, but not required. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential for success, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel. Candidates are expected to have excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to multitask and be able to work both collaboratively and independently. Flexibility, adaptability, humility and openness to new situations are necessary. Knowledge of food justice, sustainable agriculture and or the refugee resettlement are a plus.
