Women in Transitions - Business Development for Refugees

The Women in Transition Initiative is a collaboration between Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, Benevolence Farm and AmeriCorps VISTA CNCS which focuses on employment and workforce development strategies through agricultural-based social enterprise programs as a tool for overcoming and preventing poverty. The initiative seeks to ensure that North Carolina women facing major transitions (refugees, immigrants, formerly incarcerated and others) gain the educational and professional skills needed to improve their economic situation. The Americorps VISTA Social Enterprise coordinator will ensure sustainable and feasible social enterprise strategies to support program participants and organizational programs long-term. This will be achieved through assessing the current social enterprise methods used , conducting external research of additional social enterprise models, developing a business plan, identifying potential business partners and customers, and developing new systems for effective management and coordination of social enterprise initiatives to help meet business goals. Qualifications: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to justice, equity and have experience working with people from diverse cultures, ethnicity, races, religion, language, socioeconomic groups, and educational backgrounds. Relevant experience with business development planning, sales and marketing are ideal. Strong communication skills are essential for success, written and oral communication as well as technical skills for website and social media management and proficiency with word and excel. Candidates are expected to have excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to multitask and be able to work both collaboratively and independently. Flexibility, adaptability, humility and openness to new situations are necessary. Knowledge of food justice, sustainable agriculture or refugee resettlement are a plus.
