Concrete Jungle Volunteer and Program Coordinator (Harvest)

Become the Concrete Jungle Volunteer and Program Coordinator today! This incredible organization is based out of Atlanta, GA and focuses on transforming underutilized parcels of land into healthy food sources. At Concrete Jungle, they believe that their success is based on very engaged and enthusiastic volunteers. Since their founding in 2009, they have donated 117,583 pounds of produce (470,335 servings) to hunger relief organizations in Georgia. Each year they increase their yearly harvest by 50-200%, this was accomplished by: - Educating and engaging volunteers to identify and harvest fruit through our activities - Creating technology to monitor ripening of trees - Cultivating 4,000+ pounds vegetables annually on their urban farm - Gleaning from farms and orchards - Partnering with local food pantries and soup kitchens to make fresh, local produce more accessible - Hiring clients from partner agencies to help lead cooking classes and recipe demonstrations - Providing educational programming to the Atlanta community around identifying fruit trees, growing fruits and vegetables, and preparing healthy food - Expanding their programming to a satellite campus in Athens, GA This AmeriCorps VISTA position is a part of the Harvest VISTA team, sponsored by Harvest Against Hunger in Seattle, WA. Through the Harvest VISTA Program, AmeriCorps VISTA members are placed at local and national hunger relief agencies, where they create new opportunities for produce collection, volunteer recruitment, gleaning and gardening. By design, specific activities vary by location to meet community needs and available resources. Harvest VISTAs develop relationships with local growers, recruit new volunteers, build effective transportation networks and identify necessary resources to make these new programs successful and sustainable.
