Stewards VISTA: Zion Regional Collaborative

The Zion Regional Collaborative (ZRC) was initiated in 2016 as a way to facilitate collaboration on economic development, environmental stewardship, social wellbeing, and other issues of regional concern in the area in and around Zion National Park. The ZRC formed in response to the dramatic increase in visitation to Zion National Park, which has resulted in increased development with various impacts and challenges in the greater Zion area. These impacts include environmental degradation, unaffordable housing, mobility issues, and more. The ZRC allows stakeholders to coordinate across local political boundaries and interest groups to proactively and collaboratively identify and address issues in the Zion region. The projects and policies they focus on revolve around six key themes, dedicated to the protection and enhancement of: community character and quality of life for residents, economic vitality, quality of visitor experience, environmental wellbeing, natural assets, and scenic qualities. The ZRC is actively working to increase economic opportunities for lower income communities and individuals throughout the region, in part by increasing mobility and access to opportunity throughout the area, while protecting the natural resources and community assets that make the region such a special place to visit and live. The ZRC VISTA will provide ongoing facilitation and support for the effort, as well as assist the ZRC in developing and implementing projects related to economic development, environmental stewardship, and community and environmental wellbeing. The VISTA will also work to develop a strategy for the long-term sustainability of ZRC administration and coordination.
