St. John's Episcopal Church is located in the heart of Youngstown, Ohio. For over 150 years,we have been responding to the needs of our community, providing worship, art and outreach to our neighbors. Youngstown is a city of growth and innovation. We house the #1 business incubator in the world, a university, diverse cultural offerings, and a spirit of excitement. The Youngstown Business Journal (9/27/17) listed Youngstown as having the highest poverty rate of any mid-level city in the country), as well as the highest black infant mortality rate in the country, and the second worse food access.We have grown with this valley through incredible prosperity and great hardship, always trying to identify the needs of our community and adapt. This is a place where you can make a difference. Our Resource and Development Coordinator VISTA will explore the needs of our local veterans community, and the needs of young adults who have aged out of foster care. We have begun to gather data on veterans services and are looking for gaps, seeking community partners, grants, and sustainable strategies to lift those in need out of dire poverty. We want to make a long term investment in hope in each of these communities. Our ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills. Other attributes would include a passion for lifting people out of poverty, the ability to adapt and be flexible, creativity, and a high level of motivation. You must be able to work independently, set and achieve goals, and solve problems

Member Duties : The Research and Development Coordinator VISTA will research the vulnerabilities and needs of veterans and of young adults aging out of foster care in the Mahoning Valley to envision concrete and practical programming. Work will continue onprogramming forimplementation of programs and grant writing for sustainable funding. Our VISTA will also developing volunteer recruitment and training programs in online and in-person formats, stressing issues of poverty for urban mission and anti-racism training. Documentingall work completed will assist future workers in sustaining the program.
