According to NH Employment and Security, in November of 2020, 5.3% of Exeter, NH residents are unemployed and in 2018 5.5% of Exeter Residents live below the poverty line. In 1990 Exeter had one of the highest mobile home populations in NH, at 21% of all housing units and ranked as having the second highest proportion of mobile homes the surrounding communities, nearly three times higher than the County average of 6.7%. Manufactured homes have declined only slightly from 1100 in 1990 to 963 in 2018. In 2019 the average rent in Rockingham County for a two-bedroom apartment was $1,568 (2019 New Hampshire Residential Rental Cost Survey). The household required to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Rockingham County is $62,700. However, the average per capita income is $49,549 in Exeter meaning renters in Exeter are paying more than 30% of income on housing (New Hampshire Employment Security). Our goal is to help clients break the cycle of poverty and achieve self-sufficiency in the long term. Our services include a food pantry, financial assistance, homeless assistance, and healthcare

Member Duties : The VISTA member’s goal will be to assist us in breaking the cycle of poverty for our low income clients by implementing, organizing and participating in capacity building efforts for clients, volunteers and donors. The VISTA member will also assist in increasing our capacity to reach our existing client base and introduce our services as well as other resources to all clients. We will also be looking to for our VISTA member to help with efforts to increase our visibility via public relations, social media and networking. Our Food Pantry, that serves low income residents of Exeter, Stratham, Newfields, East Kingston, Brentwood and Kensington is open 3 days a week 52 weeks a year, it is operated by an all-volunteer staff. We serve over 800 Exeter area households. We also have a Community Assistance Center that offers additional programs such as Medical Services and a Senior Delivery program.
