Center for Social Justice VISTA

Trevecca Nazarene University's goal is to mobilize higher education resources and community service to help alleviate poverty by addressing health and wellness in one of Nashville's poorest neighborhoods, zip code 37210. We share a year of service that will develop and strengthen a growing network of campus and community partnerships. Trevecca is located in the heart of Nashville, TN near downtown. As available University housing is extended to VISTA members on campus at no cost. VISTA members may focus on student recruitment for service, Urban Farm programs, community partnership developments, and all members work toward completion of grants academy skills. The transferable skills are varied and the synergy of the campus life are two highlights.

Member Duties : The Social Justice VISTA (SJV) may recruit student volunteers to engage with service providers to foster a healthier community. The Center for Social Justice advances sustainable programs through service and partnership, addressing the needs of the neighborhood. SJV focus includes volunteer recruitment to support documentation, recognition, and involvement in the community. The SJV may assist with database management and mapping to highlight community partners advocating for self-sufficiency. They may also participate in events with partners. In cooperation with Trevecca Career Services, the SJV may recruit volunteers for ongoing university initiatives like service and job fairs. Additionally, the SJV collaborates with Student Development to link students with service opportunities. The SJV engages in weekly Grants Academy training and production to bolster external funding and work in harmony with fellow VISTA members.
