Opioid Addiction & Recovery VISTA

City of Pittsburgh and the entire Southwestern PA Region is deeply affected by opioid use. Many of the areas affected are low-income neighborhoods within the City limits, thus highlighting the need to stem this crisis in an effort to improve economic opportunities in these communities. The VISTA member assigned to the Opioid Use and Recovery project will focus on developing community education and awareness strategies, developing and implementing overdose prevention strategies, identifying and developing ways to provide recovery support as means to reducing the stigma experienced by those struggling with opioid use, and developing strategies to empower family, loved ones and the communities affected by this crisis. All are key to developing initiatives that will help all of those affected by it begin to move towards a healthier future and economic stability. To be successful, the VISTA member selected for this project needs to be committed to coalition building around this controversial public health issue - opioid use and recovery.
