Catholic Charities Community Liaison VISTA

Catholic Charities of Louisville's Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) provides core resettlement services to refugees for up to 90 days and supportive services up to 5 years after their arrival in the United States. MRS also supports Cuban and Haitian immigrants and asylees. Recently resettled refugees and asylees often begin their new lives in the U.S. with no job prospects, little to no English skills, interrupted education, and limited understanding of U.S. cultural systems. The goal of MRS is to provide the resources and support to enable refugees and asylees to become self-sufficient. MRS also provides Safe Release Support fingerprinting services to potential adult sponsors of unaccompanied minors apprehended at the southern border. In addition, Catholic Charities’ MRS partners with the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Hispanic Ministry which connects the Latinx community with support services. This VISTA project will help MRS to develop a resource network for our Latinx clients. This position will increase both organizational and community capacity by leveraging institutional knowledge and a robust network already in place for our refugee clients.
