VHA – Miriam's House Homeless System VISTA

Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This position will be assigned to the Central Virginia Continuum of Care (CVCoC) which oversees the regional response to homelessness and works to ensure that homelessness is rare, brief and nonrecurring. Miriam’s House serves as the lead agency for the CVCoC and will host the VISTA member in Lynchburg, Virginia. Miriam’s House is looking for a detail oriented individual to serve as the Homeless System VISTA and support the work of the CVCoC. The VISTA member will serve to increase regional solutions to homelessness, improve data quality and the use of data in informed decision making and planning, cultivating partnerships across sectors, and identifying solutions to target vulnerable subpopulations. This VISTA project will help the CVCoC continue to move forward in ending homelessness by establishing and implementing best practices to the homeless systems to better deliver services.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will, in collaboration with Miriam’s House staff, develop a new strategic plan to address the Central Virginia homeless response system by facilitating input sessions with CVCoC members, research best practices and outcome standards, cultivate partnerships to support the end of homelessness, and analyze the impact of the previous strategic plan. The VISTA will also create an outreach plan to disseminate information on the work that is being done and available through the programs within the CVCoC and expand participation in their efforts by engaging committees and working groups at the system level. In addition, the VISTA will conduct a racial disparities analysis of programs to ensure equability, develop surveys to garner feedback from persons with lived experience in order to improve service delivery, and create and implement training modules for all direct-service providers for CoC required training materials.
