VYT-Middlebury College CCE Mentoring and Outreach

PROGRAM: The VT Youth Tomorrow AmeriCorps VISTA Program supports initiatives helping low-income youth & families develop job skills & academic proficiency, build connection to their community, access health & mental health care, find housing, become food secure, and connect with essential services needed to transcend poverty, avoid unhealthy behaviors, reverse the impacts of COVID-19, and ultimately thrive. Website: www.vermontyouthamericorps.org SITE: The Middlebury College Center for Community Engagement (CCE) prepares students for lives of meaning and impact through service, scholarship, and citizenship. Our programs work to strengthen communities and contribute to the public good. Interested in advancing social justice through youth development? We seek a motivated, organized, and compassionate individual for a one-year VISTA position at Middlebury College. The VISTA collaborates closely with the CCE team and coordinates and advises several mentoring and tutoring youth-focused, college student-led initiatives. The VISTA builds capacity in programs and community partnerships that help children, primarily from low-income backgrounds in Addison County, thrive. The VISTA also builds capacity around college-positive volunteerism and first-generation college student access and success by supporting communication initiatives that share community-based opportunities with the campus community. In addition to monthly professional development through VYT, the VISTA member has the opportunity to participate in staff meetings and other on-campus workshops and events to build relevant professional skills. The VISTA member also is supported to participate in Mentor Vermont workshops and symposiums. Locally, youth and families have increased financial, health, and educational stressors due to COVID-19. The VISTA actively supports efforts in developing and implementing our community’s goals for COVID-19 recovery. Located in Middlebury, VT
