DownCity Design Program VISTA
 
 
 
DownCity Design improves the core cities of Rhode Island by inviting citizens to imagine and create better futures, using the tools of design. Our free design education programs help youth become change-makers by inviting them to respond creatively to challenges and opportunities in their communities. Learn more about our work at www.downcitydesign.org DownCity Design seeks a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA member for a one-year stipended service commitment. The Program VISTA will help oversee our after-school studio programs at Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA). The DownCity Design Studio at PCTA is a network of after school programs, including design programs and student-led clubs, that offer students opportunities to learn design thinking skills, try out new activities, meet new friends, and share their ideas. Working with the Site Director, the Program VISTA will help assure programs run smoothly by helping us streamline our administrative processes and acting as a cheerleader for our programs. Skills required: - Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - Organization and professionalism - Experience working with high school students is a plus - Spanish language ability is strongly preferred - Openness to creative collaboration and working as a team, as well as working independently - Consistency and reliability - Comfort with Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Google Drive - Other digital media skills (video, animation, audio, etc.) are a plus - Comfort with data collection, entry, and analysis, including conducting and analyzing surveys - Excitement about project-based learning and social practice - Excitement about brainstorming new ways to engage our students, families, and educators - Ability to be outgoing and communicate about programs with students, staff, teachers, educators, and families

Member Duties : - Design systems for coordination of studio schedules, field trips, and program events - Document programs in action with high quality photographs and video - Develop new ways to communicate about programs with students, families, and teachers - Improve current supply and equipment tracking and inventory systems and communicate with design educators and club mentors to ensure that all programs have necessary supplies - Improve data collection systems - Track student attendance and create reports - Collect and input student surveys to evaluate the impact of our programs - Plan recruitment events where students can learn more about after school programs, as well as family engagement events - Help to foster a poster environment so that students, family, and staff feel welcomed in our programs
