SerVermont - Vermont Works for Women

Vermont Works for Women works toward improving economic stability and independence for women. All of our programs have the goal of providing education, exploration, support and/or training with the end result of increasing economic opportunities for girls and women, thereby alleviating poverty. Our youth programs expose girls and gender non-conforming youth to a wide range of career pathways through career exploration and education programs to strengthen and support healthy social and emotional development, increase confidence, and expand opportunities for girls. Our youth programs include middle school summer camps and afterschool programs focused on STEM and trades activities, career exploration programs that connect middle school girls with their local tech centers, and high school career conferences and job shadow programs. For adult women and gender non-conforming participants, our Employment and Career Services program provides individualized 1:1 coaching and job support online as well as by phone and email, as well as through an online curriculum. We offer virtual job shadows for career exploration and a monthly online social hour for peer support and networking. A majority of participants have significant barriers and challenges to obtaining sustainable employment, such as generational poverty, incarceration, history of substance abuse disorder, history of trauma, etc. Additionally, our Trailblazers program combines professional soft skills with hard skills technical training in construction, electrical, green energy and plumbing. This program’s unique approach trains a female-only cohort in high-demand fields, with marketable and transferable skills and built-in mentorship.
