ShareCorps - CD4AP - Linden Market Coordinator

The Community Development for All People (CD4AP) vision is for a whole, healthy, and engaged community where All People are empowered to pursue their hopes, dreams, and aspirations. To achieve this vision, the CD4AP mission catalyzes collaborations with key strategic partners to improve the quality of life for all residents of Columbus's South Side through individual and community services. Because of our success through the All People's Fresh Market on the South Side, we duplicated our service in the Linden area. The Linden Market opened in September of 2021 to help people in Linden and beyond increase their quality of life. Access to healthy food is one of the most significant ways to impact health and wellness. At the Linden Market, shoppers have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, and bread five days a week. Our South Side market sees over 300 people a day and we expect the Linden to develop a similar turnout. The addition of a VISTA member to our program will build upon the foundation we have developed, increasing our capacity and deepening the impact with our members. Our goals are to increase food security in a food insecure community, empower people to make healthy choices through education, create greater connections with people, and develop systems and opportunities to increase volunteer involvement.

Member Duties : Through the efforts of the VISTA worker, we will increase access to fresh food by creating a program for the recruiting, training, and equipping of volunteers. Volunteers are essential for the implementation of the Healthy Eating and Living initiative at the newly opened Linden Market. This program will emphasize healthy cooking, physical activity, and mental health. The VISTA will intentionally connect with existing programs and the greater community to advertise the market. Additionally, the VISTA worker will find resources to create comprehensive nutrition education curriculum that will be used in existing classes and through new small groups. The outcome of this work will be to increase access to nutrient rich food within a food insecure community, empower people to make healthy choices through education, and create greater connection to people we are in relationship with across other program areas.
