Shaker Heights Neighborhood Coordinator 2021 VISTA

The proposed sub-site VISTA project is the 3rd year of the current project. SHDC’s sub-site VISTA project is focused on a co-work and resource facility, The Dealership, located in the only LMI Census tract (1836.03-1) in Shaker Heights. The third year of the current VISTA project will focus on developing and implementing a series of virtual workshops and creating newsletter for small businesses to help navigate ever-changing COVID reality. The workshops will cover a range of topics, including but not limited to, e-commerce, bookkeeping, grant writing and access to capital. The newsletter will focus on benefits of coworking during COVID, The Dealership’s resources for entrepreneurs and networking. The VISTA will be responsible for researching and connecting with potential partners to implement the workshops and create content for the newsletter on a monthly basis. The target audience for the workshops will be existing businesses looking to grow and entrepreneurs in the early stages of forming a business with focusing on minority and women-owned businesses. The workshops will aim to help individuals enhance skill sets and provide business owners with the necessary tools to help them increase employment opportunities for Shaker residents in the LMI Census tract. The outreach work will further establish The Dealership as a community asset that can be leveraged by community members and local businesses to build assets. The sub-site VISTA project will also encompass organizing and supporting the Chagrin-Lee business association. This work will help businesses to increase revenue, secure capital, and create employment and supports the goal of thriving local businesses and business districts that contribute to an equitable and prosperous future for our community. The sub-site VISTA project aligns with the OCDCA Project Goals of increasing and maintaining assets for individuals and businesses and increasing access to employment opportunities.
