Community Roots- Summer Farmers Market
 
 
 
Community Roots uses an abandoned greenhouse nursery and accompanying six acres as the site of community programs that target horticultural, agricultural, and land stewardship programs. We are seeking to: - Support local school science standards (e.g. STEM education goals, etc.) through hands-on nutrition, food science, and food production studies. Support and supplement existing agricultural & horticultural education (eg. 4H, FFA, OSU Extension-Knox) by offering community growing space at little to no cost - Partner with the Knox County Health Department and Creating Healthy Communities (GetHealthy Knox) on increasing access to fresh foods. Offer wilderness skill-building programs (e.g. wild seed saving, plant identification) - Offer wilderness skill-building programs (e.g. wild seed saving, plant identification)

Member Duties : Grow fresh produce for our summer lunch programs. Recruit and manage volunteers to sell any surplus at the local weekly Mount Vernon farmers market, supporting our mission of participating at the market and in the local food system (e.g. community outreach about the Farm to School program, inviting market goers to visit & shop at Community Roots, sharing flyers for upcoming events at Community Roots, collaborating with OSU Extension-Knox County SNAP-education programs, etc.). Come be a part of a growing movement in community gardening and fresh food access!
