Virginia Service and Conservation Corps - Interpretive 450hr
 
 
 
Join the Virginia Service and Conservation Corps(VSCC) and be on the frontlines of conservation in Virginia State Parks. The VSCC has opportunities to serve in all Virginia state parks while providing you with the skills necessary to pursue a career in the conservation field. We’re looking for members that are willing to learn and comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. In addition, you should be a self starter and be able to communicate effectively with park staff and guests. Benefits of serving in the VSCC may include First Aid/CPR/AED training, Interpretive Training, Canoe/Kayak Guide Training (site dependent), and trails maintenance training (site dependent). If members are not provided with park housing, they will receive a housing stipend to assist with the cost of living expenses. For 450 hour members, the term of service will be May 17, 2023-August 18, 2023. Members will receive a living allowance of $4,500 over their course of service. After completing their required service hours, members will be eligible to receive an education award. The amount of the education award for 2022 is $1,718.25. Members should expect to serve 37.5-40 hours per week during the term of service.

Member Duties : The 450 Hour Interpretation/Trails Program is designed to allow for intensive service opportunities in Virginia State Parks during the summer months. Members will develop and deliver interpretive programming to park visitors with the goal of expanding visitor knowledge of the natural world. Members will also work with park staff to recruit volunteers and lead volunteer service days in state parks and natural heritage areas. Depending on their site, members may also assist with trail maintenance and construction, as well as with resource management projects. We’re looking for members that are willing to learn and comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. In addition, you should be a self starter and be able to communicate effectively with park staff and guests. Members should also be comfortable with public speaking.
