Associate, VISTA Horizons Student Enrichment SFFS

Horizons at San Francisco Friends School (Horizons) is the first West Coast affiliate of the award-winning Horizons National model. Since 2014, Horizons has provided a transformational six-week summer learning program that leverages a unique public/private school partnership to close the opportunity gap for under-served K-8 San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) public school students. Nearly all of our students are from immigrant families and are bilingual in Spanish and English. Our program supports students’ personal and academic growth over the summer by providing them with an engaging, hands-on academic curriculum taught by experienced teachers that includes enrichment activities and field trips, and college and career exploration opportunities. Access, community and joy are central to Horizons’ programming. During the school year Horizons provides tutoring services to students and family touchpoints to ensure continuity of community and programming. We envision a future in which all Bay Area children have the summer learning opportunities to help them develop the skills, confidence, and inspiration to reach their full potential and make a positive impact on the world around them. This is an opportunity for a motivated, committed individual who is passionate about social justice and equity in education. This role is a fit for someone who is passionate about making a difference and receiving beyond entry-level responsibilities. Because of this the candidate should have some background of volunteer service as well as the desire to take on responsibilities that will challenge themselves and make an impact on the Horizons at SFFS community. The AmeriCorps member will join the team at an exciting time: the first year of a newly launched strategic plan. This will be an appealing opportunity to individuals looking to learn the ins and outs of non-profit work including, elements of program planning, design, and implementation.
