DCF Community Engagement Specialist for CRS CC Orlando
 
 
 
The VISTA member serving as Volunteer and Community Engagement Specialist will provide capacity building support to Comprehensive Refugee Services for Catholic Charities of Central Florida in Orlando, especially the Mentoring and Youth Programs. This VISTA position is part of a larger state-wide refugee services project: The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Refugee Services Program is partnering with the Corporation for National and Community Service to increase services to refugees living in Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Clearwater, Tallahassee, Miami-Dade, and Orlando by building capacity and coordinating activities and services between eight (8) participating non-profit organizations. As the project Sponsor, DCF Refugee Services oversees this VISTA project. DCF also manages the project grant and provides overall project coordination. The project will engage several VISTA members across eight (8) sites providing refugee services. These VISTAs serve on a variety of projects to help resettled refugees achieve economic self-sufficiency and community integration. This coordinated effort will help these organizations to provide increased services to refugees who are making the difficult transition of adjusting to life in America. In addition to other benefits, the VISTA Living Allowance for this specific position is $877.66 bi-weekly.

Member Duties : The VISTA will provide capacity building services to Catholic Charities of Central Florida’s Comprehensive Refugee Services (CRS) especially Mentoring and Youth Programs. Mentoring promotes civic and social engagement and refugee educational and vocational advancement. Youth provides tutors to refugees to support academic performance and high school graduation. To build capacity the VISTA will (1) recruit, train, and manage volunteers such as mentors and tutors; (2) assist volunteers in the youth and mentoring programs to help clients reach their goals and to identify client needs; (3) develop, support, and coordinate volunteer and client activities and service delivery; (4) help solicit donations and other resources.
