Stewardship & Environmental Educator - MALT/VHCB
 
 
 
The Middlebury Area Land Trust (MALT) mission is to "connect with our community with the lands that we protect through conservation, recreation, and education. MALT has developed an ambitious Vision 2040 to make "Addison county a model of sustainable land stewardship, where healthy natural and human communities thrive." Play a vital role in maintaining, improving, and expanding MALT’s portfolio of conserved lands while also engaging community members in land management work and ecological education! This position mixes monitoring of conserved lands, land management, and volunteer coordination with community outreach and education. Help ensure MALT’s conserved lands are protected and well cared for, while also fostering greater public participation in MALT’s conservation mission! This position is Half Time (915 hours) and takes place primarily outdoors. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. VHCB AmeriCorps is a national service program that places members with non-profit housing or land conservation organizations around the state. Position begins April 6 and ends October 2, 2026 This position is Half Time: Requires 915 hours of service for an average of 40 hours per week for 6 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $16,147 (pre-tax) and an education award of $3,697.50 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and various training and networking opportunities.

Member Duties : ·Conduct field visits to monitor conservation easements and fee-owned lands in collaboration with stewardship team. ·Assist with habitat improvement projects ·Develop and implement educational materials and curriculum. ·Engage with land stewards, volunteers, and youth participants to build relationships with MALT and community. ·Represent MALT in the community and at events to strengthen partnerships. ·Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps. ·Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Program Initiatives & outreach activities to promote AmeriCorps. ·Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
