Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps
 
 
 
Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps is a grant-based, community service project made possible through the Corporation for National Service in Washington, D.C., under AmeriCorps USA. In Illinois, it is administered by the Serve IL Commission for Volunteer and Community Service as a function of the Illinois Department of Public Health. Land of Lincoln AmeriCorps members serve in over 37 sites throughout Southern Illinois. 61 members serve in schools as tutors and mentors, in non for profit organizations helping to transition people to safe and affordable housing and within environmental agencies to help maintain and beautify Southern Illinois.

Member Duties : Members will be serving in Southern Illinois K-8 schools as tutors and mentors. They will tutor either one on one or in small groups of 5-8 students. Members will increase literacy skills of emergent learners and English language learners. Members will also serve to increase the rate of homework completion and submission, and the quality of student work. Members will help to reduce the absenteeism rate and enhance student self-esteem by being a consistent and positive presence in the school. Members will also promote a positive perception of education.
