Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House AmeriCorps
 
 
 
Lessie Bates AmeriCorps approaches the needs of the children and families of East St. Louis, Illinois. Central to the program are twenty-five Educational Advocates who will serve 1000 children and their families in a comprehensive effort over a three year period to improve their educational outcomes, to improve their health by reducing childhood obesity, and to increase their technological competence to prepare them for a digital world. Overall, 186 AmeriCorps members will support these efforts in technology, nutrition education, volunteerism, after-school programming, and veterans services.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members who will provide educational support, food support through healthy futures and food support to seniors. They also coordinate services for homeless veterans, expand the capacity of the community to support and manage volunteers and community implementation of safety initiatives. "Youth opportunity" within the Greater East St. Louis, Illinois community is one of the program greatest impacts throughout the community. Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House AmeriCorps program will focus on the CNCS focus areas of Education, Healthy Futures, Capacity Building and Economic Opportunity for Opportunity Youth.
