Economic Opportunities in North Central New Mexico_Raton
 
 
 
Within Colfax County, unemployment has been a continuous issue exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the City of Raton acts as a main passage between New Mexico and Colorado, bringing the possibilities of economic success, many people struggle to seek gainful employment. The state workforce solutions board does not have representative from Colfax County which perpetuates a lack of support for job-seekers in the area. This VISTA project will build on the previous two years by implementing, documenting, and wrapping up VISTA activities for the VISTA researched and developed SkillSharp Online Education Platform. This platform seeks to deliver free online courses to every citizen in Colfax County and connect them to jobs in the area.

Member Duties : The VISTA Member will carry out outreach and marketing intended to increase the involvement of low income persons in adult education classes including high school equivelancy preparation and testing, resume writing, and job interviewing. The VISTA will survey area employers to identify job training and education needed by employers, develop training materials. and help secure sponsors and funding to provide the job training local residents need to prepare for work in available local positions in real time.
