*AC Goodwill* Keene State College TRIO

Keene State College is a public liberal arts college located in southwestern NH. The underpinnings of KSC’s mission- historically, at present, and for the future- are excellence in undergraduate liberal arts education, access for students who otherwise might not be able to attend college, and a commitment to community engagement and service. Keene State is host to three TRIO Programs: Aspire, Upward Bound, and Upward Bound Math Science. TRIO Programs are competitive grants funded out of the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO students are either low-income (eligible for free or reduced lunch) or first in their family to attend college. TRIO programs support students to partake in a rigorous high school program of study and then to access and persist through college graduation. With the AmeriCorps partnership, we have been able to build a safe and supportive community for our students. Members serve during our 6-week residential summer program, our academic year school based program and Saturday sessions. Most importantly, members serve as mentors and motivate our students to develop to their fullest potential. More information about our programs can be found at https://www.keene.edu/office/ub/ Goodwill places members in schools and nonprofits to increase student engagement through mentoring of students that face significant challenges and need additional interventions to succeed in school and life. Members utilize a mentoring model supporting students through: 1) Weekly one-on-one check-ins with 15-25 students. 2) Gathering behavioral and school data. 3) Connecting students to needed interventions. 4) Connecting with families. Member support is provided through mentoring, academic support, service learning, additional interventions, and/or planning for or recruiting volunteers to support these activities.
