*MTCC Upward Bound Salish Kootenai College Summer
 
 
 
SKC Upward Bound is a college preparatory program designed to help low-income and first-generation students meet their postsecondary education goals. Upward Bound Team Leaders will work with students in grades 9-12 during the Upward Bound college preparatory summer component. They will provide support to students in completing academic, retention, career exploration, and college visitation activities designed to better prepare low income, first-generation Upward Bound students for success in postsecondary education. Students will complete academic course work at both the high school and college level, as well as participate in personal, cultural, community service, college visitation, and other enrichment activities. College Going Rates by Income and Race 2014 show a disparity between the National Rate: 68%, Montana Rate: 61%, Low Income Rate: 52%, and Native Rate: 35%. Member Duties : Members will mentor students during evening activities, college tours, and career exploration workshops. Member will support students during a series of field experiences focusing on community service, academic enrichment, and college visitation. Small groups of 6-12 students will participate in 4-5 day trail maintenance, natural resource preservation, plant restoration, and college visitation trips. Members will assist students with daily activities in remote camp settings, on college campuses, and other sites throughout the summer component. More specifically, leaders will assist with trip preparation, camp set up and take down, and all camp and campus related activities. Members will support integration of career exploration elements. ***Salish Kootenai College requirement is that applicants are subject to drug test including THC.
