United Way of Rhode Island Economic Mobility VISTA

As an AmeriCorps VISTA, you have the power to make a big impact in the lives of others in our local community. VISTA will build the capacity and expand programming in the core program being: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) which strives to increase economic opportunity and EITC participation for low-income residents. United Way of Rhode Island motto is “Community First”. The LIVE UNITED 2025 strategic plan will guide United Way of Rhode Island’s next five years from 2020 until 2025, just in time for our centennial celebration. Our plan explicitly addresses systemic inequity – i.e. policies that promote unequal opportunity and treatment of people of color. We know it’s the right thing to do morally. It’s also the smart thing to do economically. Improving the economic mobility of hard working and promoting financial stability of hard-working Rhode Islanders are front and center of our efforts and this is a great opportunity for someone to join a dynamic, collaborative, supportive team, working intelligently, individually, and diligently to make meaningful change in the community. A successful VISTA candidate is flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and emotionally intelligent. As a result of VISTA’s efforts, United Way of Rhode Island will better understand what combination of income services are currently available to the target community, where service gaps are, what best practices can be adopted to enhance program impact, and how to leverage internal resources to better achieve our goals. Together with your help, we will transform the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Rhode Island.
