Minneapolis Promise Zone-Resource Development Coordinator

President Obama created the Promise Zone initiative to address the challenges of deep and persistent poverty. The goal of the Minneapolis Promise Zone (MPZ) is to build capacity for the City and its partners to transform distressed communities in North Minneapolis, by increasing racial equity, access to safe, affordable housing, economic development; improving education, and community health & safety. The specific goals of the project are to 1) develop key strategies through working groups to meet initiative goals; 2) support alignment between community partners, city government and the private sector; and 3) build the capacity of the initiative to effectively deliver the services that comprise the strategic plan.

Member Duties : •Identify grant opportunities that fit goals and projects of MPZ. Create and maintain a spreadsheet with relevant grants. •Assist HUD liaison with federal grant writing workshops. •Collaborate with other VISTAs to create and update reports on measurements and metrics for the MPZ. •Build relationships with the development office of nonprofit partners and reach out to partners to start initiating conversations around possible grant applications. •Summarize grants, create timelines for submission and meet with partners to map out plans for submission. •Organize meetings of partners to create content for grants. •Work with the HUD liaison to answer any grant questions of federal agencies that partners may have. •Coordinate completion of HUD and City of Minneapolis preference point certification forms. •Assist with writing and submission of federal grants. •Prepare letters of support for partners applying for federal grants.
