ArtReach Outreach, Communication, and Assessment VISTA
With a strong record of developing reciprocal, respectful, active, and democratic partnerships, GWU works with the DCPS and other community organizations to place AmeriCorps VISTAs in under-resourced schools and communities across Washington, DC. ArtReach VISTA serves at THEARC in Ward 8 as one of 14 health, education, workforce development, and arts nonprofits providing opportunity for economically and geographically isolated residents East of the River. Key attributes for a successful GWU VISTAs: • Desire and ability to work effectively in an urban community education environment with teachers, school administrators, parents, and students • Ability to network and form relationships with community organizations • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make a work plan • Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to learn from experience • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Experience with visual arts and experience volunteering, recruiting and managing volunteers and planning programming

Member Duties : The Community Liaison for ArtReach will identity, assess, and act on needs and opportunities to expand and enhance partnerships and resources for visual arts programming in the Ward 8 high need community, where there is a dire lack of arts programs • The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will support ArtReach in enhancing existing after-school and community partnerships to provide arts education, workforce skills development, and art therapy to enhance the opportunities available to underserved residents. • The VISTA will help recruit, establish, and implement new partnerships and programs that enrich students’ civic engagement, creativity, and skills. • Work with existing partner organizations to ensure effective programming • Expand and support programming to meet priorities of teens, adults, and seniors in Ward 7 and 8 communities• Enhance communications with existing and potential ArtReach families• Build sustainability for VISTA-initiated projects.
