23-24 World Relief Community Resource Specialist

This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. World Relief is more than a resettlement agency. We envision every refugee and immigrant welcomed by community, rooted in community and empowered for community. World Relief's dynamic programs are client focused to provide support that empowers clients to achieve their own goals and desires. The post-release program serves asylum seekers and others leaving immigration detention. Tacoma has one of the largest detention facilities in the country and has the capacity to hold 1575 people. We provide both long and short term services to clients. Some are traveling to friends and family across the country, and others stay in the area. We serve clients coming from the border and other detention center facilities who have chosen to settle in Western WA. Most asylum seekers do not initially qualify for government benefits, so one of the greatest needs is access to free and low-cost community resources that will help clients overcome the barriers to economic stability. This AmeriCorps position supports the work of the post-release program by partnering with asylum-seekers and other immigrants to address their economic challenges and barriers to stability. The AmeriCorps member will also work within the community to establish new partnerships with organizations who are willing to provide scholarships and services to clients in need of their services. The member will work with the client population through surveys to learn about culturally relevant information regarding needs for each population. Survey results should inform opportunities offered to clients.
