United Way Battlement to the Bells (UWBB) - VISTA Leader

United Way Battlement to the Bells (UWBB) champions ordinary people in the Roaring Fork, Crystal and Colorado River valleys to make an extraordinary difference by assisting those most in need throughout our local communities. Our service area is located on the Western Slope of Colorado, about a three-hour drive west, up into the mountains from Denver and about a 1.5-hour drive east from Grand Junction. Our area boasts scenic rivers and other four-season tourist attractions, especially our many festivals, mountain trails, and fabulous ski resorts. Our local communities experience significant levels of poverty due to a large number of low-paying service jobs and our rural, low-population geographic area. The population is centered around towns ranging from Aspen in the southeast to remote Parachute out west. We also work with a high number of Hispanic residents, so bilingual skills are a plus. The UWBB VISTA Project will offer $500/month housing stipends (paid directly to VISTA members’ landlords). Our VISTA project when at full capacity can have 12 VISTA members. Specific responsibilities vary, but the VISTA Leader will be involved in helping to expand the existing VISTA project. The Leader will help recruit, screen, and provide training for VISTA members. They will coordinate VISTAs and develop monitoring, reporting, and project management systems. The Leader will promote information sharing; create a VISTA support network; develop in-service training workshops; conduct site visits, and create a long-term model for the program. The Leader may assist with grant writing, fundraising, and conduct broad-based public awareness campaigns. In general, they set an example of leadership for VISTAs: ensure positive relations, facilitate idea sharing, and mediate issues with the community, the project, supervisors, and VISTA members. The VISTA Leader would also assess current outreach materials and develop new materials, where needed, to strengthen UWBB programming.
