Extra Special People (ESP) Program Leader

ESP exists to create transformative experiences for people with disabilities and their families, changing communities for the better. We serve over 700 participants and their families throughout North Georgia through 8 weeks of summer camp, 20 after-school enrichment programs, meaningful employment and job training, and ongoing family support. Our AmeriCorps Program Leaders gain experience working with the disability population and a wide range of individuals of all abilities; communicating with family members and service recipients; planning and implementing effective community programs; creating lesson plans and recreational programs; program evaluation and assessment; and leadership and management. Our Program Leaders focus two things: Employment and Family Support. Employment programs fulfills the objectives of Java Joy by creating and implementing job training for adults with disabilities; creating and monitoring individualized work plans and recreational goals for each "Joyrista"; serving as a team leader and manager of all Java Joy community events; and ensuring all work sites maintain a safe, clean, friendly environment for both Java Joy staff and community members. Family support fulfills the objectives of 360 programs by providing direct support to families of a child with a disability in low income and rural communities; leading annual family programs and support services; serving as an advocate for ESP families and other families of children with disabilities; facilitating program enrollment for new families; and leading and implementing new family support resources and programs. In addition to standard AmeriCorps benefits, ESP AmeriCorps Members are provided the option for rent-free housing during their term of service and additional leadership opportunities and training. All interested applicants must apply through myAmeriCorps AND submit a cover letter and resume to americorps@espyouandme.org
