This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a national service program that places AmeriCorps members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont to support those organizations in expanding their services that many communities rely on. LEAP supports their members in their path to educational and career attainment through direct service, on-going trainings, and professional development opportunities offered during the service year. NorthWoods Stewardship Center is a non-profit organization located on a 1500 acre campus in East Charleston, VT. Our mission is ‘to connect people and place through science, education and action.’ This is a full time AmeriCorps service position and requires completion of 1700 hours for an average of 40 hours per week. Member will receive a living allowance of $22,100 (pre-tax) and an education award of $6,895 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include free or reduced-price housing, health insurance, childcare assistance, and various training opportunities. *this organization requires all staff and AmeriCorps members to be fully vaccinated prior to employment or service term*

Member Duties : Member will assist the Education staff as they develop and implement programming on environmental education and outdoor recreation with local schools, and promote and facilitate summer camp programs. Activities include cross country skiing, snowshoeing, flat water canoe instruction, team building, ropes course, natural science and wildlife education, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, outdoor exploration, survival skills and crafts. This position will also include some service in the education office to support the member’s educational programming activities. The qualified applicant will have a positive attitude, high energy, exhibit patience and flexibility and excellent communication and leadership skills, and demonstrate experience leading groups of young adults in an outdoor setting. Applicants must have a commitment to working with youth in the outdoors, and possess a strong sense of stewardship of the natural environment.
