Partnerships for Student Achievement

The mission of Partnerships for Student Achievement (PSA) is to increase student academic achievement in literacy and math in Washington County schools. The AmeriCorps team does this through tutoring, mentoring, extended school day activities, parent involvement programs and volunteer generation. Full-time AmeriCorps members are individually placed in selected K-12 Washington County public schools. Placement descriptions of specific member activities vary by school and focus on each particular school's needs. Teacher- referred students are tutored by members to improve grade level performance in the areas of math and/or reading. Parental involvement strategies foster greater participation by parents, improving student achievement. Extended school day programs provide a safe place for students during out of school time and offer structured activities for students in both academics and enrichment. Volunteer generation strengthens the community's involvement in schools and increases student performance.
