Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on the needs of veteran and military families, improving and expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all, and creating healthy futures for the residents of NY. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities in New York state. The Serve New York program partners with organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Lyons, Ithaca, Geneva, and White Plains with similar missions in order to achieve this goal. Member Duties : Each VISTA leader will be assigned a group of VISTA members for whom they will serve as a peer mentor. Additionally, VISTA leaders will work with SNY program staff to ensure that members and host sites are in compliance, on track towards meeting their stated goals and recruiting new VISTA members for upcoming deadlines. Leaders will also play a role in planning member trainings, and assisting SNY staff with special program-related projects.
