Associate, VISTA at Horizons Student Enrichment Program -GFA
Horizons National has partnered to place AmeriCorps members at Horizons Affiliates across the US. Multiple AmeriCorps VISTA members are placed in one-year placements throughout Fairfield County, CT in order to target the community's most crucial issues in an effort to reduce the achievement gap between students from low-income families and their wealthier peers by inspiring minds, building community, transforming lives and supporting Horizons programs on a national scale. Horizons at Greens Farms Academy (GFA) helps underserved students from Bridgeport develop strong academic, social and emotional skills, habits of mind and the resilience to succeed in school and pursue a meaningful, choice-filled life from Pre-k- through college completion. This is an exciting opportunity for a new and/or experienced leader to play a critical role in Horizons high school & college administration and work on capacity building projects. Horizons at GFA provides a high-energy, team-oriented work environment for a close-knit staff of five. The VISTA will work closely with the Director of High School & College Programs and/or the Executive Director on numerous projects and will report to the Director of High School & College Programs.

Member Duties : The VISTA will be responsible for helping build the capacity at the High School and College Success Program through community outreach and communications. This year, the program will focus on creating more robust partnerships with businesses and nonprofit organizations in the community to improve and enhance the opportunities for Horizons students. As part of this focus, the VISTA will research local businesses and organizations and begin to develop relationships with the ultimate goal of creating a map of the local community. The VISTA will also develop a list of contacts to sustain these relationships beyond the year of the VISTA project. Ultimately, these relationships can hopefully be leveraged to access volunteer, internship, and career exploration opportunities for high school and college students. Finally, the VISTA will research other funding sources to sustain the High School and College Programs with a particular focus on funding sources that emphasize community partnerships.
