The service-learning experience will enrich the students' learning experience through the integration of civic responsibilities and community service to the academic curriculum in an in and after school program. School-aged children and youth (enrolled in K-12 school) will participate in the service-learning experience with the support of four (4) AC members. They will create a student/participant profile; assess student's specific academic skills before and after the service-learning experience; develop Project-based service-learning based on student needs; examine attendance record; create, in partnership with students, a log book to track progress of service-learning projects. provide support to students with homework and school projects; maintain attendance record and measure student satisfaction through a parent/participant satisfaction survey. Service hours will be from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. At least 4 service-learning projects will be completed during the service year and participants must complete at least three of them projects as well as show improved attitude towards students and academic achievement. Workshops will be offered to parents/caregivers on integration into their children's academic areas to serve as peers and increase their knowledge of healthy lifestyles and social mobility. Older adults will participate in 20 educational projects in learning, literacy, reading comprehension and motor skills development, with a focus on preparing them to be mentors and peers to their children or other academic-age participants.

Member Duties : Three (3) AmeriCorps members will offer service learning program support to boys/girls and youth after school (extended hours). Following as a model a standardized project guide through the service. The three members in direct service to participants will provide assistance and supervision of lagging skills, special projects and supervised assignments, take daily attendance, distribute snacks to program participants and offer support in coordinated special activities during the period of the agreement. Workshops will be offered to the participants and their managers aimed at strengthening family relationships and volunteering.
