LEAP - QT Summer Bookmobile Educator
 
 
 
This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a state AmeriCorps program that places members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont to support those organizations in expanding services that many communities rely on. LEAP members provide direct service in the form of educational programming to PreK-12 Youth in STEM subject areas and early literacy projects. LEAP supports their members through trainings and professional development opportunities throughout their service term. An AmeriCorps member provides a friendly and inviting environment for reading, both on and off the bookmobile. This person is an advocate for the bookmobile and the library and is responsible for nurturing reading and educational pursuits in all media, as well as helping to strengthen the bookmobile program by expanding its programming repertoire and reach. This is a summer Minimum Time AmeriCorps position requiring 300 hours for an average of 30 hours per week. Member will receive a living allowance of $2,300 (pre-tax) and an education award of $1,311.11 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include federal school loan forbearance, and various training opportunities.

Member Duties : -Drives the bookmobile to scheduled stops, makes sure the bookmobile arrives promptly. -Performs circulation duties related to bookmobile and children’s library. -Reads stories, sings songs, performs fingerplays, etc. at the stops that opt to have programming. -Lead STEAM programming. -Participates in community outreach activities and events and identifies potential partner organizations for the bookmobile program. -Continues to increase technology skills and be aware of new resources for information for families. -Observes children and their reactions to reading aloud, skill development, language development, emerging literacy development and more and makes notes for program data collection purposes. -Demonstrates skill in operating a large motor vehicle 24’ or longer in all weather conditions. -An excellent driving record and maintains a valid driver’s license. -Requires walking or standing for long periods and frequent lifting and carrying of objects.
